Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Wrist pain, which can interfere with day to day tasks and activities, is often the result of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or a repetitive strain injury. This is the compression of the median nerve inside the carpal tunnel at the wrist, which can often occur when there is external pressure on the wrist, fluid retention (such as in pregnancy), inflammatory conditions, arthritis and overuse injuries. Classic Symptoms include pain and numbness and tingling in the palmar surface of the thumb and radial 2 ½ fingers- often patient will experience an increase in symptoms at night and difficulty with grip strength.

It is important to rule out other forms of nerve compression with a thorough orthopaedic and neurological examination by your chiropractor.

Chiropractic treatment includes wrist mobilisations, bracing and therapeutic ultrasound to assist in alleviating compression and symptoms.
